Tread and age check

Two numbers tell you when a tyre is done: how deep the tread is, and how old the rubber is. Check both in under a minute.

Tread depth

Push a depth gauge (or a matchstick you mark) into the main groove, then set the depth you measured.

Tyre age (DOT code)

Find the oval code starting with DOT on one sidewall. The last four digits are the week and year it was made: 1425 is week 14 of 2025.

  • Under 5 years: fine if the tread and sidewalls are good.
  • 5 years and older: have it inspected every year.
  • 10 years and older: replace it, even with tread left.
